Sarah Krohn at the ‘Sco

“We used to go by different names — Sarah Krohn of Mascs and Men. That was when I had a mullet. Then we were Sarah Krohn of Femmes and Friends because I grew out the mullet. Then we were like ‘we need a new name,’ but we never settled on it, so now we’re just going by Sarah Krohn.”

On Monday, April 29th at 10 pm, at Oberlin’s Dionysus Disco, Sarah Krohn and her fellow indie-pop bandmates will present a particularly special concert.

Obie concert-heads will recognize Krohn from her four years of live shows across various venues on campus. Unfortunately, it seems we will reach the end of her tour de Oberlin when she graduates on May 27th.

Monday’s event will commemorate her Ohio-based musical journey and there is no better way to celebrate it than with her beloved bandmates. The current lineup of the group includes Krohn on vocals and backup guitar, Justin Epstein on lead guitar, Max Blatter on bass, Griffin Edwards on drums, and John Czekanski on Viola.

Although it has reached its final form the makeup of the band has significantly morphed throughout the years — and Krohn says their name is no exception to their annual transformations.

“Now with Justin as the guitarist, I can do a lot more performing. I’ve done that at house shows and Solarity, but I am excited to do it at the ‘Sco since I’ve played there before.”

Opening for Krohn is Rock Band — another Oberlin student group consisting of Tyler Graf, Lyric Anderson, Noah Galambos, and Max Kassoy. Krohn said she asked them to play after they gigged together at the Bike Co-Op.

Krohn said that they’re jazz kids “but I would say Rock Band is a pretty descriptive name — and they’re really good musicians.”
